Varsity girls have two home wins

Gowrie, Iowa - Southeast Valley (2-0) Madrid (0-2) - Despite being having an 8 point deficit with less than 4 minutes left the Jaguars prevailed with a 34-29 win over non-conference opponent Madrid.  The Jaguars finished the final four minutes of play by hitting two 3 pointers, two 2 point field goals, and 5 free throws. Scorers for the Jaguars were Hicks 7, Welter 7, Hemmested 5, Jaeschke 4, Ferrari 4, Carlson 3, Mills 2, and Scott 2. “We executed in the last four minutes of play.  The girls showed their competitiveness when they battled back from behind late in a game like this one.” Coach Mills.  

 
Gowrie, Iowa - Southeast Valley (3-0) West Bend Mallard (0-2) - The lady Jaguars outlasted a 17 point fourth quarter by Westbend Mallard to claim the first conference win of the season.  Jaguars were led in scoring by Emily Hemmested with 20 points. Other scorers were Ferrari 8, Mills 7, Hicks 5, Jaeschke 3, and Scott 2. “The girls adjusted to the physical play finishing with 27 rebounds and 12 steals.  Excellent defensive effort especially when we needed a basket. Defensive steals led to a couple key lay ups late in the game.” Coach Mills. The Jaguars visit the Fort Dodge St. Edmond Gaels on Tuesday, December 10. JV tips off at 4:30 and V is 6 p.m.


Gowrie, Iowa - Southeast Valley (1-0) Madrid - The JV lady Jags competed in 2 quarters against Westbend and fell short in the final minutes 24-19.  The girls demonstrated team play throughout.
