Jaguars Finish Second

Laurens, IA ~ The Southeast Valley Jaguar volleyball squad ended up placing second in the annual Twin Lakes Conference Volleyball tournament on Thursday, October 17th.  The girls lost to East Sac County in the championship match by the scores of 21-25 and 19-25. 

The girls started the tournament by traveling to Emmetsburg to compete in Pool C and was seeded seventh overall.  The girls defeated the E-Hawks of Emmetsburg by the scores of 25-22 and 25-21.  They then turned around and beat the Panthers of Saint Mary of Storm Lake by the scores of 25-21 and 25-12. 

On Thursday, the 17th, the girls traveled to Laurens and opened the afternoon with a win over Pocahontas Area 25-10 and 26-24.  They then defeated the Warriors of Alta-Aurelia by the scores of 25-23 and 25-19.  Following that match, they took on the Raiders of East Sac in the championship round.

The team served at 97.4 % with Delaney Conrad, Kenzie Crampton and Haylee Kraft perfect behind the serving line during the whole tournament. During the regular season, the girls averaged 94.2% serve efficiency.  The team had ten ace serves during the tournament averaging one ace serve per game.  They had 130 saves which averaged to 13 saves per game which was almost three more saves per game than during the season.   Kiersten Fisher had five solo blocks followed by Kenzie Crampton with four.  The team had a total of 11 solo blocks and seven assist blocks.  Offensively the team had 135 kills which averages to 13.5 kills per game.  That statistic is above the team’s average of 9.60 kills per set.  Kiersten Fisher led the team with 54 kills during the tournament.  She was followed by Jaynie Ferrari with 32.  Delaney Conrad had 24 kills, Crampton had 18, Emily Jaeschke had four and Chloe Hicks had three.  Jaeschke had 84 assists (sets for kills) while Crampton had fourteen.   The team is 19-12 overall. 

The final Twin Lakes Tournament standings were: East Sac County – 1st place, Southeast Valley – 2nd place, South Central Calhoun-3rd, Alta-Aurelia-4th, Newell-Fonda-5th, Pocahontas Area-6th, Emmetsburg-7th, Manson NW-Webster-8th, Sioux Central-9th, West Bend-Mallard-10th, St. Mary’s of Storm Lake-11th, and GTRA (Graettinger)-12th.

 

The girls open regional play in Algona, IA on October 23rd.  The match will be held at Algona High School and starting time is 7:00 pm.
