Print Version

The Southeast Valley cross country team quickly added a meet at Alta on Monday, September 30th after losing two meets due to weather earlier this season. After being spoiled by perfect running conditions the meet before, the Jaguars had to endure hot, humid, windy and buggy conditions when arriving in Alta.

Southeast Valley also competed against many teams that they normally don’t compete against. Conference foe Sioux Central won the boys varsity race with 76 points, followed by Cherokee and OABCIG with 109 and 110 points respectively. The Jags finished 8th in the 12 team field with 174 points.

Zach Thompson (27th, 20:21) was the first runner to cross the finish line and was followed by teammate Carson Suchan (29th, 20:50) who ran an all-time best PR. Robert Jepsen (43rd, 21:17), Asa Haub (46th, 21:33), Cooper Nuss (53rd, 21:59), Blake Peterson (55th, 22:29) and Ty Klatt (77th, 26:33) rounded out the varsity seven on Monday night.

The boys’ JV team was the brightest of the night as they won the JV team race with 25 points and three medalists. Caleb Kaltschnee lead the way with a 2nd place finish and season best time of 22:14. Wyatt Sprecher (5th, 22:42) and Ross Halligan (9th, 23:19) also earned medalist honors. Nolan Jackson just missed out of a medal with his 16th place finish in a time of 24:03. Parker Johnson rounded out the scorers for the Jaguars claiming 19th (24:27).

Also running JV was Gage Erickson (27th, 26:13), Sam Sytsma (28th, 26:35), Kyle Johnson (34th, 28:26), Jacob Snyder (35th, 29:39), AJ Smith (37th, 29:51), Zane Geis (38th, 33:09) and Jamie Dalley (40th, 37:23).

In the girls’ race, the Jaguars ran up against a pair of class 2A ranked teams where Cherokee upset Sibley Ocheyedan for the 1st place spot with 58 points to S-O’s 78 points. South O”Brien and Lawton Bronson, another pair of teams the Jaguars usually don’t compete against finished 3rd and 4th. The Jaguars finished 9th with 217 points.

Morgan Farnham (34th, 26:22), Marlie Johnson (44th, 28:14), Viatris Scott (56th, 30:45), Emily Hemmestad (58th, 31:40) and Emma Hunter (59th, 31:55) were the top five scorers in the varsity race. Displacement runners were Madison Doyle (60th, 31:59) and Jayden Gardipee (61st, 32:09).

The JV girls finished 3rd overall. Taegan Long (23rd, 34:24), Kylie Weiland (25th, 35:19), Christine Housken (31st, 39:12), Shelby Mills (32nd, 39:14), and Lauren Tidman (34th, 41:37) were the five JV finishers.
