W 4-3 (13-11)

The old saying it is hard to beat a team three times in a season rung true for the Jaguar Baseball Team as they faced off against rival Manson NW Webster to start their post season.  The Jaguars earned the #3 seed while the Cougars were the #6 seed.  The game took place in Lytton as district games cannot take place in locations without lights. So the Jaguars were ready to go but senior ace Jackson Housken started off a little shaky pitching as a foot injury fired up and after a few walks the ball was handed over to fellow senior Coledon Bethel.  Coming into a jam with bases loaded and one out the senior allowed a slow dribbler barely get by him scoring one run and allowing runners to advance one base.  With the same situation, Coledon got two huge outs, getting the Jaguars out of a tough situation.   The Jaguars were quick to respond in the first inning getting two huge runs coming off the bat of Senior Colton Kamp scoring Kolson Kruse and Jacob Slininger from second.  The game was back and forth much of the night as Manson took the lead in the 6th inning after an error which allowed the runner to score.  After nothing in the 6th and stopping the Cougars in the 7th the Jaguars were down to their final three outs.  After Manson’s pitcher was replaced because of pitch count, the Jaguars knew what they needed to do.  Senior Mason Ackerson hit a chopper to short which was overthrown at first.  After a walk by Kolson Kruse and a pass ball which allowed both runners to advance the Jaguars were looking good.  Manson elected to intentionally walk Jackson Housken bringing Xavier Nichols up to the plate.  In style, Xavier Nichols took  the second pitch sailing in the right center gap easily scoring Mason Ackerson and the winning run Kolson Kruse, Jackson Housken went around from 1st just to make sure.  A huge big hit from the senior allowed the Jaguars to mob the senior out at second base and celebrate in fashion.

Xavier ended up 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s while Colton Kamp did one better going 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. While Jackson Housken added one hit as well for the Jags.  Kolson Kruse had a monster game going 3 for 3, with two huge doubles, one walk and scoring twice.  The Jaguars pitching was stellar again as Coledon Bethel beat Manson for the third time this year.  Both senior pitchers combined for three runs but all were unearned and struck out a total of 8 batters, only walking four batters.  It was a good night for the Jaguars who didn’t play their best game of the year but still good enough to win.  Next game is Tuesday night in Ogden as the Jaguars face off against the number 2 seed in their district Carroll Keumper.  Come out and support the Jaguars as they hope to reach the district final game for the 4th time in school history.
