6-28 @ Newell Fonda 11-1 L (10-10) (6-5)

June 30, 2019

Print Version

The well rested Mustangs from Newell Fonda was the last opponent of the Jaguars for the week as they traveled to Fonda on a hot Friday night.  Again a rescheduled game from earlier in the season, which at the time of the regularly scheduled game the Jaguars were red hot and the Mustangs had been struggling.  Now with a new date and the momentum of a winning streak gone the Mustangs took full advantage of the situation sending out their ace pitcher who would have been unable to pitch if the game were played on its original date.  The Jaguars really hit the ball well considering they were facing the Mustangs ace pitcher.  Again though the sore spot for the Jaguars, as it has been so often this season is getting timely hits, which the Jags just couldn’t do.  The Jaguars had a combined seven hits sparked by Seniors Colton Kamp and Coledon Bethel who have been coming on as of late, both had two hits.  Kolson Kruse had a double, while Jackson Housken and Xavier Nichols each recorded a hit a piece.  Jacob Slininger didn’t have a hit but he did cross the plate giving the Jaguars their lone run of the game.

The Jaguars sent out Freshmen Kolson Kruse on the mound against the athletic Mustangs.  Again the other team started hot and got a few runs early which again hampered the Jaguars chances of winning the game.  Scoring two runs in the first and 3 in the second it was a rocky start but Kolson settled in giving up one run over the next three innings of work.   Overall Kolson ended with 6 hits and 6 earned runs as they Mustangs just seemed to find bloop hits falling over heads of the Jag defenders while also getting timely hits scoring runners.  Something the Jaguars failed to do.  Senior Xavier Nichols finished out the pitching as the Mustangs reached the 10 run rule in the 6th inning.  The Mustangs just had a bit too much fire power with a very athletic and gifted group of players.

JV Action:  5-11 L

The JV team finally got some games under their belts.  Again JV loss leads to a Varsity loss as well much like the rest of the season.  Scoring four runs in the first inning, the Jaguars started off hot but cooled off later in the game allowing the Mustangs to increase their lead.  The Jaguars had multiple pitchers from starter Jesse Hanson to Lucas Jondle and then Parker Garcia in short relief.  Again some errors and walks came back to hurt the Jaguars, who looked like they might pull off the upset over the talented young mustang JV team.
