Three Jags earn TLC crown

Three Jag wrestlers captured Twin Lakes Conference crowns in their own gym as the Jaguars hosted the tournament in Gowrie. 113 lbs. Junior Coledon Bethel won his first title by defeating Monte Mathews(GT/RA) 7-3 in an aggressive, smart match. Senior Trey Lawrence defended his 132 pound title by defeating Lucas Hoffman(GT/RA) 3-0 winning his second TLC title in his career. Junior 182 lbs Kyler Fisher also defended his title by receiving a medical forfeit victory over Carter Murray(GT/RA). Fisher also has two TLC titles in his career. Junior 220 lbs Xavier Nichols was the other Jag finalist, losing a tough match to a very good Alta-Aurelia opponent. Two Jag wrestlers, 170 lbs Junior Carter Fluckiger and 285 lbs. Junior Clayton McFarland finished in third place, while 126 pounds Junior Sam Hemmestad placed fourth. 145 lbs. Senior Colton Klingson placed fifth and 138 lbs. Freshman Jonah Siebert and 120 lbs. Sophomore Mason Goodwin finished in sixth place. 160 lbs. Junior Alex Pudenz had to withdraw from tournament because of injury and 195 lbs, Freshman Jaxson Carlson did not place.
This was one of the more competitive Twin Lakes tournament in recent years. You will see many of the two finalists competing in the State tournament in February. Also, with Emmetsburg joining the conference, the field definitely became stronger. Starting the day we had a few hiccups in a few matches where we thought we possibly could have won, but our guys finished pretty well. You always want to finish with an odd number in the placing such as 1st, 3rd, 5th. Going three for four in the finals was a great way to end the day. Both Coledon and Trey had good quality opponent they defeated in the semi's and Trey defeated a good kid who has also been at the State Tournament. Kyler was set for a tough match against his Graettinger opponent but unfortunately his kid forfeited because of injury. Xavier had a real solid kid in the finals who is ranked 6th in 1A and battled tough. Carter wrestled a nice tournament gaining valuable experience each time he goes out on the mat and Clayton came back strong after losing a tough semi-final match.
