Jaguars earn four varsity and four JV medalists honors

The Southeast Valley cross country teams took advantage of a cool crisp fall morning in Pocahontas to set 16 career PRs on Saturday, September 30th.  Another 10 athletes set season PRs as the Jaguars earn four varsity and four JV medalists honors.

    In the girls race, Katara Jondle earned her 5th medal in 6 tries this year to lead the Jaguars.  Her career best time of 22:24 finished 12th overall.  Sammy Alphs earned her fourth medal of the year finishing 19th overall, running 23:01, one second off her season and career best.  Crossing the finish line third for Southeast Valley was Alli True (29th) running her season best of 24:07, while teammate Emily Hemmestad finished two seconds behind her for 30th place a career best 24:09.  Morgan Farnham also dropped almost a minute off her best time to run 25:58 to finish 41st and was followed by Tessa Berg in a season best of 26:29.  Also running a season best in the varsity race was Marlie Johnson, 27:02 - 45th.

    In the boys’ race, Patrick Breitsprecher finished 4th overall in a time of 18:18 and earned his 5th medal of the season.  Coledon Bethel got his third medal of the season finishing 23th in a career time of 18:43.  Nolan Jackson and Lincoln Miller also ran career best Saturday morning.  Their times were 21:00 (39th) and 21:33 (48th) respectively.  The other three varsity runners, Ben Sebring (21:24, 45th), Isaiah Gibbs (21:38, 50th) and Parker Johnson (22:16, 57th) ran season bests.

    The varsity girls finished 5th in the team standings with 120 points.  8th ranked Emmetsburg won the meet with 40 points, followed by 11th ranked Alta Aurelia with 50 points.  In the boys’ standings, the Jaguars finished 7th overall scoring 149 points.  South Central Calhoun won the meet with 61 points, followed by Sioux Central with 67 points.

    The JV girls were meet champions, scoring a perfect 15 points to win the meet. The JV boys’ took third overall, scoring 67 points.

    The JV girls were lead by Emma Hunter who finished 3rd overall running 26:12.  Also earning medals for the JV were Hannah Rees (6th, 27:02) and Viatris Scott (7th, 27:20).  Jade Wozab (13th, 29:05) and Leslie Housken (15th, 29:48) rounded out the top 5 scorers for the Southeast Valley JV squad.

    Medalists in the JV boys race to lead the Jaguars was Kaylb Crouse who ran a season best 21:41 to finish 8th.  Blake Peterson (12th, 22:17), Jared Kastendieck (17th, 22:56), Dillon Sytsma (19th, 23:17) and Daniel Johnson (20th, 23:17) rounded out the top 5 scorers for the Jaguars.

    The Jaguars will compete again on Tuesday, Oct. 3rd at Lake City before traveling for the final meet of the regular season before conference at Ida Grove on Monday, Oct. 9th.  The Jaguars will then compete in the Twin Lakes Conference meet in Sioux Central on Saturday, Oct. 14th.
