Jaguar Cross Country Teams Travel to Story City

   The Jaguar cross country teams traveled to Story City for the annual Norseman Cross Country Invitational last Thursday Sept. 24th. The eleven team field featured teams from class 1A, 2A and 3A. The varsity boys placed 4th overall as a team with 105 points being. Class 1A-#4 Ogden was the meet champion with 64 points followed by class 3A teams Nevada 76 points and Kuemper Catholic with 82 points.

   Cooper Nuss and Oscar Hanson once again led Southeast Valley with medal honors finishing 9th and 10th respectively. Cooper ran a season best 18:03 while Oscar missed his season best by two seconds running 18:18.

   Seniors Asa Haub and Zach Thompson also ran season best times running 19:19 and 19:42 respectively to finish 22nd and 30th. Fellow senior Carson Suchan was not far off a season best with a time of 20:07 for 34th place.

   Xander Dorman made his varsity debut in this race, running his career best time of 20:43 and Caelan Oakes-Sudhish continued to be in the top seven of the Jaguars with a season best time of 21:11. They were 42nd and 52nd respectively.

   Due to a couple injuries, the Jaguars girls team is down to six runners for the next couple weeks. However, the five of the six girls competing all ran season bests times for the year. Freshman Hailey Rees dropped over a minute and a half on Thursday to run a 25:38 to finish 50th. Madison Doyle was next runner with a time of 26:37 for 65th place. Shelby Mills just missed her season best by two second running 27:49. Shelby was followed by Jayden Gardipee (28:19, 78th), Meranda Hemmestad (31:02, 88th) and Haley Stewart (32:30, 93rd).  

   The girls finished 9th overall with 247 points. Class 2A - #16 Roland Story won the meet with 29 points followed by class 3A Bondurant-Farrar (78) and 1A South Hamilton (104).

   The JV boys also showed some big improvements as well. They finished 5th overall in the JV race with 113 points. Ben Thompson was the lead JV runner in 15th place with a time of 21:29. Maverick Dorman was next in 21st place running a season best of 21:57 and Spencer Suchan in 23rd place running 22:30. Cole Lundgren (34th, 23:22) and Jacob Snyder (36th, 23:31) completed the five scorers in the JV race for Southeast Valley.

   Bretton Farnham and Jamie Dalley also competed for the Jaguars running season best 25:47 and 26:16 respectively.  

   The Jaguars will be competing at Pocahontas on Saturday, October 2nd and then at Lake City on Tuesday, October 5th.
