JV Boys Wrap Up Season with 63-35 Victory

The Southeast Valley junior varsity boys' basketball team wrapped up their 2023-2024 basketball season on Thursday, February 8th, defeating Clarion Goldfield-Dows by the score of 63-35 at home. The 28-point win helped improve the JV record to 10-8 on the year.

In their final contest of the season, the JV squad used a high scoring first quarter to jump out to an 18-10 advantage entering the second quarter of play. In the second quarter, the Jaguar defense was able to prevent CGD from scoring for over a four minute span before going into a three minute cold spell themselves. At the halftime break, the Jags led 28-18. In the second half, the young JV squad outscored the Cowboys 35-17, putting up enough points in the second half alone in this game that would have been the total in some other JV games this season. Playing 8:00 minute quarters definitely helped in that regard.

For the game, the team showcased a balanced offensive attack, led by Hayden Butrick with his 13 points and 4 for 6 from 3pt land. Nick Field also went 4 for 6 shooting, but all in the paint. Field recorded 8 points and secured 3 rebounds. Scoring 7 points a piece were Gauge Jones and Cornell Lowery. Jones also finished with a team high 4 steals and recorded 3 assists. Bryce Harrison added 6 points, a team high 8 rebounds, and 2 assists for his efforts. A point-guard trio of Tyler Jondle, Lincoln Akins, and Karson Roper all scored 5 points each, with Roper leading the team in assists with 6 and 3 steals. Spencer Peterson added 4 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals in the game. Rounding out the Jaguars in the scoring column was Hayden Greene with 3 points and one defensive rebound. Although Ethan Tucker did not score, he had a great game rebounding, securing 6 caroms off the glass on the defensive end of the floor.

End of Quarter Scores: SV 18, CGD 10; SV 28, CGD 18; SV 42, CGD 24; SV 63, CGD 35.

Members of the JV team this season include the following: Ethan Tucker, Lincoln Akins, Karson Roper, Tyler Jondle, Nick Field, Cornell Lowery, Gauge Jones, Bryce Harrison, Spencer Peterson, Hayden Butrick, Hayden Greene, and Ian Brunner (earlier on in the season); and with the help of our Managers: Taylor Willardson, Emilie Schnell, Aubrey Sandstrom, and Caleb Shirbroun.
