6/28 Manson NW Webster 13-8 L (5-15)

A five run sixth inning propelled the Cougars over the Jaguars here at Jaguar Field last Wednesday night. The non conference matchup between the two saw the Cougars get the season sweep of the Jaguars who have only lost to the cougars four times since being a program. The Cougars were the first to score with three runs in the first inning off pitcher Cale Van Sickle. All runs were unearned as the Jags defense allowed three errors in the first inning and giving them six outs and a lot of confidence. The Jags would roar back taking the lead 7-4 in the fourth inning but three more runs made the game tied at seven a piece before Manson would explode for five runs in the sixth putting the game out of reach for the Jags. Some individual performances were good to see for the Jaguars. Starting with Cale Van Sickle who started on the mound, Cale would throw admirably getting pop ups and ground balls only allowing three of the seven runs earned. Gauge Jones and Tyler Jondle would finish the game in relief for the Jags. The bats are gaining traction for the Jaguars as Brady Hanson went 1 for 3 at the plate with a huge home run blast over the centerfielder for his first home run of the season and the team’s third. Justin Loseke got back on track going 2 for 3 with a double and a single while driving in two runs. A slew of other Jags had some big time hits. Carl Berglund and Casey Hanson both had hits which scored runners. Casey’s with two outs while Carl’s was a double down the line. Tyler Jondle, Hane Sorenson and Cale VanSickle would all finish with singles on the night. Tough game to lose to a conference rival but the Jags will need a quick refresh as they travel to Emmetsburg to finish up conference play before having their first round of district play this Saturday.

JV ACTION: 4-2 W (10-7-3)

Freshmen pitchers Ethan Tucker and Nick Field paced the Jaguars JV team with good pitching. The freshmen duo with their last innings of the year would allow them to score twice but end the innings before any more damage could happen, a good sign for things to come next year from those two freshmen. Offensively the day belonged to Ethan Ackerson who had a towering 2 run shot over the fence to record his first home run of the year. Lenix Allbee would continue to hit the ball hard with a single and double, scoring both times. Gavin Weier would round out the hits for the Jags. The JV squad has one more opportunity to play tomorrow night as they travel to Emmetsburg.
