Jags defeat Estherville

Print Version

The Jaguar football team gets a big win and guaranties them a winning season and that is something the coaches and players take deep pride in and are very proud of.  The Jaguars have been together for 6 years and 5 of the 6 seasons together are winning seasons.  Coach Swieter and his staff have had 11 of the last 12 years winning seasons.  Coach Swieter wanted to thank his coaching staff for this accomplishment.  You can't win without having a great coaching staff around you and all of them have taking that same pride in winning.

The Jags came off a very disappointing 3-0 to Garner and were facing an Estherville team who previously knocked off Spirit Lake so the Jags new they had to come ready to play.  If you compare scores the Jags had no chance of winning this game.  Coach used this all week and said this is why we play the game.  Do not ever compare scores to what others do to each other.  Just play our game and worry about how we do against each one.

ELC starts with a quick 3 and out and were forced to punt.  The Jags fumbled the punt and gave the ball to ELC on the 20 yard line.

ELC gets a quick first down to the 10 but the Jags defense steps up big time and holds ELC out of the end zone.  This was huge for the Jags.

Jags put together a 12 play running drive but were forced to punt.

ELC runs 4 plays and their QB has a scramble and Chase Swieter starts taking him down and Aaron Graves came in and completely finishes the tackle and Chase Swieter ripped the ball out and Hunter Sorenson recovered the fumble.

Jags run 3 plays and face a 4th and 8.  Hunter Kruse hit Chase Swieter for a 13 yard catch and a first down.  2 plays later Lathe Muench runs it in and also runs in the 2 point conversion and take the lead 8-0 into half.

Jags start 2nd half with an 11 play drive and were forced to punt

ELC 6 plays and punt

3 plays later Hunter Kruse hits Kolson Kruse for an 80 yard TD and this was the big play the Jags needed to break the game open.  Hunter Kruse also hit Kolson Kruse for the 2 PT conversion and the Jags led 16-0

Chase Swieter has a 58 yard kickoff and ELC fumbles it on the 27 yard line.

Jags were dealing with some injuries so Coach Swieter decided to give his Freshmen RB Carl Berglund a chance.  Carl had a quick 5 carries for 20 yards and Carl scored his first varsity TD.  Hunter Kruse hit Chase Swieter for the 2 PT conversion and Jags led 24-0

ELC put a late drive together.

This was the win the Jags needed.  Coach Swieter was a happy coach and very proud of the boys.  Coach was happy how the line controlled the game on both sides of the ball.  To get that 5th win with a very young team is exciting for the Seniors and for the future as the Jags will be returning a lot of players with varsity experience next year.

The Jags will take on Algona who has already clinched the District Championship and our 8-0 and ranked 2nd in the state.  They are a very good team.  Here is coaches advice.  Well boys guess what?  Algona was 8-0 last year when we played them and ranked 2nd.  We won 42-41.  So let's do it again.
