6/13 SIOUX CENTRAL W 2-1 (6-6) (3-3)

6/13 SIOUX CENTRAL W 2-1 (6-6) (3-3)

A postponed game from earlier in the year was the second conference game of the week for the Jaguars.  Coming off a tough loss the other night the Jaguars needed this one to improve their conference record.  Spurred on by a stellar pitching performance from Coledon Bethel the Jaguars were successful winning a close ball game by the final score of 2 to 1.  Coledon threw an excellent game against a solid Sioux Central team, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings throwing a 1 hitter, allowing only one run to cross the plate.  Coledon Bethel struck out 8 batters, while only allowing three walks.  Coledon reaching his pitching limit of 110 was forced to come out not allowing him to finish the game so Sophomore Rhett Grandfield came in during a tense time of the game only up one run and shut the door on the Rebels hopes for a comeback win.  A huge pitching performance from the senior pitcher and a tough one out save from the sophomore allowed the Jaguars to secure the huge conference win.

The two runs the Jaguars gained were in the 3rd and 4th innings.  In the third inning Sam Hanson reached base and quickly stole second.  After a past ball Sam made his way to third where Mason Ackerson laid down a great bunt which sent Sam home for the first run of the game.  The next inning Jackson Housken hit a double off the fence sending him to second.  Then Jacob Slininger came through with a huge double with a full count which sent Jackson home for the go ahead run and the eventually the run which would win the game for the Jaguars.  A huge full count hit for Jacob is just what the Jaguars needed as they have been in a lot of situations needing a big hit.  This game it was Jacob Slininger doing what the Jaguars have needed as of late; getting a big hit.

JV ACTION: W 3-2 (4-4-1)

Playing Varsity first the JV team took the field afterwards and continued the winning ways.  Varsity catcher Max Davis took the mound throwing making his first start and pitching appearance this year.  Max threw really well keeping the Rebels JV team off balance and coming out due to pitch count and allowing sophomore Parker Garcia to finish the game.  Parker threw great in relief as well as they combined only gave up two runs.  The Jaguars were down by one in the final inning, when Zack Miller lead off with a hit to start the 3rd inning.  After a couple of walks and the score now tied, Sophomore Memphis Simpson came up to bat.  With bases now loaded Memphis hit a sharp grounder to the shortstop who knocked the ball down but it was too late as the runner from third crossed the plate giving the Jaguars the winning run!  This continues the trend of JV winning leading to a Varsity win, a crazy trend that has only not happened once.  When JV tied and Varsity lost at Alta.
