Week 2 Southeast Valley Softball

5/29/19   Southeast Valley 10   Sioux Central 0   6 innings

The Jags opened up conference play with a decisive victory over the Rebels of Sioux Central.  Scoring got started in the second inning for the Jags as Morgan Castenson drew a walk.  Mady Jaeschke bunted Castenson over to second.  Kenzie Crampton walked and Marlie Johnson entered the game to run for Crampton.  Castenson scored on a mishandled ball hit by Cassi Berglund.  It wasn’t until the 4th inning that the Jags opened up the game as they plated 8 runs.  The girls were able to string hits together as Mady Jaechke started it with a base rip.  Crampton would walk and Berglund would score Jaeschke on her single.  Cassidy Lambert drew another walk and Emily Jaeshcke singled as did Shelby Cummins and Kasey Lundberg.  Morgan Castenson doubled and M. Jaeschke again up in the inning reached on an error bringing in the final run of the frame.  The Jags plated on more run to end the game early as Lundberg singled and advanced on a Castenson walk.  A fielder’s choice would score Lundberg to end the game.  Lundberg led the offense going 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.  Crampton tossed a three hit shut-out walking 1 and fanning 7.

 

5/30/19   Southeast Valley 3   Algona 0

A strong defensive battle saw the Jags scrape by for the win.  Morgan Castenson kept the Bulldogs in check as she threw a 4 hit shutout with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts.  There were some great plays executed by the Jag defense including a pick off at first base and a throw out from centerfield to third.  Southeast Valley kept their poise and played an intense game.  The three runs were all scored in the bottom of the 6th inning as Emily Jaeschke reached on an error.  Cummins would follow suit as she also reached on an error that would score Jaeshcke with a close play at the plate.  Lundberg walked and Castenson helped her own cause as she drove in Cummins and Lundberg to take the lead 3-0 and give the Jags some breathing room heading into the final frame.  The Bulldogs went down in order and Southeast picked up their 7th win of the season.  Castenson led the offense going 1-3 with 2 RBI’s. 

 

5/31/19   Southeast Valley 10   Manson Northwest Webster 0   6 innings

The Jags headed to Manson for their second conference match-up of the year.  Emily Jaeschke led off the inning and was hit by a pitch.  Shelby Cummins moved her over with a sac bunt.  An error by short would allow Jaeschke to score.  Crampton shut the side down in order and in the second inning Mady Jaeschke lined out a single and stole second.  Crampton would draw the walk and a sac bunt by Jaynie Ferrari brought in Jaeschke.  A sac fly by Cassi Berglund brought in Crampton.  Southeast was quiet in the third but managed another run in the 4th when Ferrari would score from a Berglund hit.  The 6th inning caused the most damage as the Jags scored 6 runs to end the game early.  Back to back singles by Crampton, Ferrari, Berglund, Cassidy Lambert, E. Jaeschke, Cummins, and Lundberg contributed to the 6 run inning.  Castenson walked and M. Jaeschke singled and stole second but the damage was already done.  Crampton turned the Cougars away in order 4 of the 6 innings and allowed 3 hits while striking out 3.  Offensivley the Jags had 11 hits with multiple hitters including Lundberg, M. Jaeschke, and Berglund.  After two weeks of play Southeast Valley is sitting 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference.
