5/31 @ MANSON NW WEBSTER W 3-2 (3-2) (Conference 1-0)

Print Version

A crazy ending to the Jag Baseball week saw the Jaguars traveling to conference foe Manson Cougars.  The Cougars have had the Jaguars number in recent years during their conference game taking it the last two years.  This year was looking like it was going to be the same as the Cougars got some runners on and got one big hit which scored two runners.  Looking like a repeat of the past, the Jaguars went into the 6th inning looking to even the score and that’s what they did scoring two runs in the top of the 6th inning to tie the game up.  The Jaguar bench was leading the charge, picking up the team and gaining all the momentum from the Cougars back to the Jags.  A few walks definitely helped the Jaguars but it was timely hits that pushed the Jags over the edge to get a one run lead going into the seventh. Hits for the Jaguars came off of Coledon Bethel, Jackson Housken had three big walks one scoring a run. While Xavier Nichols cracked things open with his hit in the 6th inning. And Colton Kamp rounded out the hits with one which scored a runner to take the lead for the Jags.  Senior Coledon Bethel threw another gem of a game. Coledon threw 5 innings, allowing 5 hits, two runs, with 1 walk and 7 strike outs.  With the game in question the Jags threw freshmen Kolson Kruse who with ice in his veins managed to strikeout three batters in a row with runners on 1st and 3rd in the 6th inning.  Then again in the 7th Kolson got some help after an error allowed a runner to get on base, a low pop fly appeared to a now shortstop Coledon Bethel who was going to cover second on a steal.  Right place at the right time as Coledon caught the flyball for the second out and a quick throw to first baseman Zack Miller for the final out of the game.  In the past it has always been the Jags on the end of bad luck plays like that.  Little poetic justice the game ended the way it did.  A good win for the Jaguars and the first conference win of the season under their belts.

JV: ACTION – W 13- 7 (3-2)

As goes the JV so does the Varsity!?  Again the JV boys win on the same night as the Varsity takes home a victory.  A lot of scoring helped the issue with Quinton Clancy scoring three times on the night, with one double and two walks.  Hunter Sorenson continued his hits streak with one in the first inning.  Memphis Simpson was hit once and base hit his next time up to bat, scoring twice.  Chase Kamp also rounded out with one hit and one run.  Rhett Grandfield broke out of his slump with a big time hit which landed him at second base and scoring on it as well.  Freshmen Caden Larson had one hit before his night was shortened due to injury being replaced by Lane Fevold at catcher.  The win takes the JV one win above .500 hopefully to stay over that mark!
