Boys Indoor Meet

Print Version

The first four weeks of the Southeast Valley boys’ track season has been a struggle to get good practices in as the winter weather has confined most of the team’s practices to the gym and the halls of the high school.  This past Friday, March 15th, however, 24 of the 41 members of this year’s team got to compete in their first meet of the year at the Buena Vista Elite High School indoor meet in Storm Lake despite the snow and flooding going on outside.

The strength of this year’s seniors lead the Jaguars in Storm Lake.  Kyler Fisher edged senior Nyles Johnson in the 60m dash running 7.55 and 7.59 respectively setting the 1st and 2nd fastest 60m times in SV history.  Senior Colton Kamp also ran in the 60m dash in 7.79. Fisher, Johnson and Kamp joined senior Mason Ackerson in the 4 x 200 to run a 1:40.19.

Seniors Coledon Bethel and Ben Carlson both competed in the 1600m for the Jaguars.  Bethel’s time of 5:17.09 and Carlson’s was 5:22.06. Jarret Loseke competed in the 60m high hurdles and ran a 10.55.  Loseke also joined underclassmen Sam Hanson, Carter Lane and Rhett Grandfield in the shuttle hurdle to run the second fastest 60m shuttle hurdle in Jaguar history in a time of 40.66.

Lane (9.93) and Hanson (10.58) also ran the 60m high hurdles.  Grandfield ran the open 400m dash with fellow sophomore Hunter Sorenson and they both cross the finish line in identical 59.35 seconds.

A large group of freshman also made their high school varsity debut at Storm Lake.  Kaleb Scott cleared 5’ 6” in the high jump. He also teamed up with freshman Tre Fisher, and Ty Klatt along with Kamp to run a shuttle hurdle time of 46.03.  Fisher and Klatt also competed in the long jump, jumping 14’ 9” and 14’ 1” respectively. The freshman group of Zack Miller, Max Miller, Lathe Muench and Scott ran a 4 x 200m time of 1:47.20.

Muench and Max Miller joined Ackerson and Johnson in the DMR and ran a time of 4:21.78.  Zack Miller joined Hunter Kruse, Robert Jepsen and Sorenson in the 4 x 800 and ran a time of 10:18.95.  Hanson, Swieter, Kruse and Grandfield comprised a third 4 x 200m quartet finishing in a time of 1:46.19.  Swieter also jumped 5’ 6” in the high jump.

A trio of throwers threw the shot put.  Jared Kastendieck threw 41’, Memphis Simpson 40’ 10” and Lucas Samuelson 37’ 5”.  Joe Stevens jumped 17’ 9” in the long jump as well. The Jaguars will compete in two more indoor meets this coming week before starting their outdoor campaign the following week in Jefferson on March 25th.
