The Southeast Valley High School High School football team posted a 28 to 6 victory over Estherville-Lincoln Central in a home game on Friday night, October 12.This win was the Jaguars' 4th straight winning game, giving them a chance at the district title next week against 8-0 second ranked Algona. The winner of this game will be the district champions with the loser placing second.
The Jags are now 4-0 in the district and 6-2 overall,  losing to South Central Calhoun at 8-0, and Belmond which is 7-1.
Coach Mike Swieter knew going into Friday's game the only thing that his team could control was winning the game and it was not the prettiest win, but commented, "But we will take it and move on and get ready for Algona."
The Southeast Valley Jags got the ball and fumbled on the second play. The Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets ran 11 plays, but the Jaguar defense stuffed them on 4th and 7. The Jags ran five plays and fumbled again. This was not the start Southeast Valley had anticipated. The Jags forced three plays and a punt.
On the Southeast Valley's first play, Kyler Fisher had an 86-yard touchdown run with Hunter Kruse connecting with Nyles Johnson for the 2-point conversion. This run was one of many school records Kyler set for the night.
The Midgets fought back with a 13-play drive and attempted a field goal with the Jaguars getting the block. Both teams had three more possessions but nobody found the end zone before the half and the score remained 8 to 0 in favor of Southeast Valley. The Jag's coaches were not happy with the squad and team members received a reprimand from all of them, getting the team adjusted for the second half.
The Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets began the second half with seven plays and had to punt. The Jaguars punted after eight plays. Estherville then also had to punt after eight plays.
Finally, Southeast Valley got the break they needed with a Kyler Fisher's 53-yard touchdown run with Kyler also running in the 2-point conversion. The Jaguars retained the lead, 16 to 0.
Estherville fought back but had to punt again. The Jags wasted no time and in four plays, Kyler Fisher had his third touchdown, running from 65 out and made the score 22 to 0. The Midgets made a late drive and scored, trying for the on-side but the Jaguars recovered.
The Southeast Valley Jags planned on running the clock out but Estherville used their three time outs so the Jaguars stayed aggressive. Kenny Blunk had great runs and got his first touchdown of the year to clinch the win, 28 to 6.
Kyler Fisher had a career night with 13 carries for 270 yards and three touchdowns.Coach Swieter was very proud of what Kyler accomplished but said the team achieved all of that together. "None of that happens without everyone doing their job. The line, fullback, tight end and wide receivers were all doing their jobs for Kyler to be able to run the ball like he has over the last few games. There is nothing better for Coach Duncan seeing his line pound the ball and having those type of results," Coach Swieter noted.
Coach Swieter also added these comments regarding the defense. "They forced Estherville to punt seven times. They were giving up a few yards here and there but they always stepped up and kept them out of the end zone at the very end."
As his final thoughts, Coach Swieter said, "Well, the stage has been set. We need a great week of practice and the boys have a chance of a lifetime next week."
