Jaguars place Third in Conference Tournament

Laurens, IA ~ After going 2-0 on Tuesday, October 9th at home, the Jaguar volleyball squad traveled to Laurens to continue play in the Twin Lakes Conference tournament.  The girls opened up the afternoon against the E-Hawks of Emmetsburg and won by the scores of 25-13 and 25-22.  Mady Jaeschke led the team with 12 kills.  She was followed by Kiersten Fisher with six and Jayne Ferrari had four.  Kasey Lundberg had three kills and Kenzie Crampton had two. Morgan Castenson had 22 assists.  Delaney Conrad and Kasey Lundberg had two blocks each.  Shelby Cummins, Morgan Castenson, and Cassidy Lambert led the team with over eight saves each.  The team served 93.5 % with Cassidy Lambert having two ace serves.

The team was off an hour and then played East Sac County and lost in three games by the scores of 28-26, 23-25, and 9-15.  The team served at 96% with Lambert, Jaeschke, Castenson, and Cummins having one ace serve each.  Jaeschke led the team with 16 kills.  Ferrari and Fisher had four each.  Conrad and Lundberg had three kills each.  Castenson had 24 assists for the match.  The girls were tough at the net with blocking and deflecting the attacks from East Sac.  Fisher had four blocks. Conrad had three while Lundberg, Jaeschke, Castenson and Ferrari had one block each.  Kenzie Crampton had two blocks.  Cummins led the team with over ten saves/digs during the match. 

In the last match of the night, the Jaguars took on the Titans of South Central Calhoun who won the conference 11-0 this past season.  The girls bounced back from their loss from East Sac to defeat the Titans by the scores of 25-18 and 25-22.   The team served at 97.9% with only missing one serve.  Conrad, Lundberg, and Castenson each had one ace serve.  Jaeschke had 15 kills, while Conrad had seven.  Fisher and Ferrari each had two kills while Lundberg and Castenson had one each.  Lambert and Cummins led the team with over nine saves.  Castenson had 21 assists.  Fisher had three solo blocks while Jaeschke, Conrad, and Crampton had one solo block each. 

Earlier in the week at home, the Jaguars hosted one of the first rounds in the conference.  They defeated West Bend-Mallard by the scores of 25-21, 23-25, and 15-9.  In the last match of the night, they beat the Mustangs of Newell-Fonda by the scores of 28-26, 22-25, and 16-14. 

East Sac County ended up winning the Twin Lakes Conference tournament by defeating Newell-Fonda in three games.  The Jaguars finished the regular season at 18-8 overall. 

Regionals:  The girls are in Class 3A – Region III (3) where they open up tournament play at Story City, Iowa to face the Norsemen of Roland-Story.  Roland Story is 24-7 overall and placed third in their Conference.  The match begins at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 17th.    The winner of that match will face the winner between Humboldt and Greene County.
