6/9 Madrid Tourney Madrid 1-11 L (5-6)

Print Version

The first game of the weekend tournament saw the Jaguars facing off against the 5-5 Madrid Tigers who seem to be big time losses or big time wins when they do.  It was a big run win for the Tigers as they came out and hit the ball against the Jaguar pitcher Coledon Bethel.   It was a grand slam home run in the third inning which really gave the Tigers momentum.  An inning which would have been a lot different if not for a blown call on the bases which would have given the Jaguars two outs and a chance to end the inning.  Instead the Tigers capitalized and took control of the game and the Jaguars couldn’t get any momentum back.  Junior Coledon Bethel threw alright giving up 9 hits but only two earned runs which was the difference in the ball game.  The bats for the Jaguars mustered 6 hits on the night with a triple coming from Jackson Housken and a ground run double off Jaxon Myers.  The double from Meyers would have scored Jackson who was on first at the time and given Jaxon a for sure triple. Other Jaguars getting hits were Tommy Lennon, Mason Ackerson, and Nolan Johnson whose hit scored Jackson Housken fresh off his triple.  Jaxon Myers added one more hit and finished the game with two hits.  A tough loss for the Jaguars but they needed to regroup and get a big win to end the losing streak.

Woodward Academy W 18-1 (6-6)

The Jaguars needed a big win to stop a losing streak and the Jaguars got a big one against Woodward Academy.  Strikingly similar to last year when the Jaguars lost the first game and came back to beat Woodward 16 to 0.  This year they added 2 more runs but still collected the win evening up their record to .500.  It was a nice afternoon for young players on the roster as Sophomore Quinton Clancy and Freshmen Sam Hanson combined to allow four hits, one earned run, and two walks in four innings of pitching.  It was great getting to see young jaguars getting the opportunity to compete and get their first varsity action.  Quinton recorded 8 strikeouts while Sam recorded 2 strikeouts in only three innings for Quinton and one inning for Sam.  You don’t score eighteen runs without some hits.  Leading hitters for the Jaguars were Jackson Housken going 3-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI’s.  Mason Ackerson finished going 2 for 3 with a double and a triple while driving in two and scoring twice.  Nolan J kept the two runs and two RBI’s streak going and also finished with two hits.  Jaxon Myers had one hit and scored a runner on that hit.  Quinton Clancy finished 2 for 3 while Junior Xavier Nichols also finished with two hits and you guessed it scored two runs while driving in 2 runners.  Rounding out the hitting was Coledon Bethel who had one hit but recorded 3 RBI’s on the night.  A decisive win for the Jaguars and a must needed win.  A busy next week for the Jaguars, as they have four conference games.
