Jaguars Finished Fourth in TL Conference Tournament

Laurens, IA ~ The Southeast Valley Jaguar volleyball team ended up placing fourth at the annual Twin Lakes Conference Tournament.  The girls opened tournament play on Tuesday, October 10th by defeating the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard by the scores of 25-23 and 25-21.  The team served at 95.7%.  Delaney Conrad led the team with five kills.  She was followed by with Kasey Lundberg with four, Mady Jaeschke and Jaynie Ferrari with three each; Kiersten Fisher with two and Kenzie Crampton had one.  Setter Morgan Castenson had 16 assists.  Fisher had two blocks with Jaeschke, Conrad, and Ferrari having a block each.  The girls averaged 20.5 saves/digs per game.  In the second match of the night, the girls lost to South Central Calhoun by the scores of 13-25, 25-22, and 15-12.  The team only missed two serves during the match and had a 95.9% efficiency rating.  Castenson and Lundberg had one ace serve each.  Jaeschke and Lundberg led the team with six kills each.  Ferrari had four kills, Conrad had two and Crampton had one kill.  Castenson had 18 assists.  Ferarri led the team with three blocks.  Jaeschke and Crampton had two blocks each.  The team only averaged 10.66 saves per game.  The top two teams in each of the pools/sites advanced to the championship flight in Laurens, Iowa.  The other three sites hosting tournament action was East Sac, Alta-Aurelia, and Pocahontas Area.

The girls opened the second round of the tournament by beating the Cougars of Manson NW Webster by the scores of 25-17 and 25-23.  In the second game of the match, the Cougars were ahead 22-20 and the Jaguars came back and won the match.  The team only missed one serve and served at 97.9%.   Cassidy Lambert had one ace serve.  Jaeschke led the team with seven kills.  Lundberg and Conrad had three kills each.  Castenson had 16 assists.  Defensively, the Crampton and Ferrari led the team with two blocks each.    In the second match of the night, Alta-Aurelia defeated the Jaguars by the scores of 11-25 and 16-25.  The team served at 96%.  The girls struggled with serve receive during this match.  Jaeschke, Conrad and Ferrari had three kills each.  Castenson had ten assists.  Ferrari had three blocks, while Crampton and Fisher had two blocks each.  Conrad, Lambert and Cummins led the team with seven saves each.  Other players with saves were Hiesterman, Shipley, Castenson, Jaeschke, Lundberg, and Crampton. The team had to sit over an hour to play the final match of the night.  The girls lost to East Sac County by the scores of 13-25 and 18-25.  The team served at 97%.  Jaeschke led the team with seven kills.  Lundberg had three.  Castenson had 11 assists.  Castenson, Lundberg, and Conrad had two blocks each.  Fisher, Ferrari, and Jaeschke had one each.  Cassidy Lambert, Carson Shipley, and Delaney Conrad led the team with six saves each. 

Alta-Aurelia ended up winning the conference tournament for the second consecutive year.  South Central Calhoun finished second, East Sac County was third and Southeast Valley finished fourth.  The conference tournament standings for the rest of the teams were:  Emmetsburg-5th, Newell-Fonda-6th, G-T/R-A-7th, Manson-NW Webster-8th, Pocahontas Area-9th, West Bend-Mallard-10th, St. Mary’s-11th and Sioux Central-12th.  The girls finish the regular season at 13-13 overall.

The girls open regional play on Wednesday, October 18th in Lake City against South Central Calhoun.  The match begins at 7:00 PM.  The winner of the match will play the winner of Roland-Story and Greene County on Tuesday, October 24th in Story City.
