Jaguars compete in last meet before conference

Running their last meet before the TLC conference meet and State qualifying meet, the Jaguar cross country teams competed at the Bob Saunders Invitational in Ida Grove on Monday, Oct. 9th against some stiff competition. While Southeast Valley runners set quite a few PRs, medals were harder to come by.

Patrick Breitsprecher (4th, 18:06) and Coledon Bethel (23rd, 19:05) were the loan varsity medalists for the boys or girls’ teams on Monday.  However, Ben Carlson (31st, 19:41) and Isaiah Gibbs (60th, 21:07) both ran season bests and were seconds from running their career bests.  Kaylb Crouse (68th, 21:29) and Parker Johnson (70th, 21:37) ran season bests in the varsity race.  Ben Sebring (88th, 22:52) was the 7th varsity runner for the boys.

In the girls’ race, Katara Jondle (28th, 22:35) was the closest to the medals for the Jaguars.  Sammy Alphs (41st, 23:37) was the next Jaguar to cross the finish line, followed by Alli True (45th, 23:49) who ran her best time of the season.  The fourth Jag to cross the finish line was Emily Hemmestad (53rd, 24:16).  Morgan Farnham (67th, 25:16) and Tessa Berg (75th, 25:56) ran season bests to be the next two Jaguars to cross the finish line.  Marlie Johnson (90th, 27:29) was the 7th Jaguar to finish for the Varsity.

The boys team finished 7th overall in the 14 team field while the varsity girls finished 9th.  The JV girls won their third consecutive meet in a row, while the JV boys finished 5th.

The JV girls were able to bring home three medalist honors.  Emma Hunter (3rd, 26:26), Viatris Scott (4th, 26:51) and Hannah Rees (8th, 27:24) lead the JV girls earning the three medals..  Lincoln Miller (20th, 22:38) and Blake Peterson (24th, 22:41) lead the JV boys.  Jared Kastendieck (25th, 22:52) ran a season PR.  Running their career best times on Monday in the JV race were AJ Smith (29th, 23:24), Kyle Baird (33rd, 23:43), Evan McCrady (49th, 26:47) and Aryan Azim (53rd, 27:53).

The Jaguars will head to Sioux Central on Saturday for the Twin Lakes Conference meet before the varsity seven return to Lake City for their state qualifying meet on Thursday, Oct. 19th.  The top three teams and top 15 individuals at this meet will qualify for the state meet on Saturday, October 28th in Fort Dodge.
