11 medalists at Titan Invitational

South Central Calhoun was the host to the SCC Titan Invitational cross country meet on Tuesday, Oct. 3rd in Lake City.  The Jaguar cross country team had one of its best showing of the season with a total of 11 medalists in the four different races.

    In the boys’ varsity race, Patrick Breitsprecher was the top finisher running 18:05 and finishing 2nd overall and earning his 6th medal of the season.  Coledon Bethel earned his 4th medal of the season running 18:58 and finishing 15th.  Overall the boys 191 points was good enough for 6th place as a team.  Contributing to those points with Patrick and Coledon were Ben Carlson (42nd, 19:49), Ben Sebring (65th, 21:24), and Isaiah Gibbs (67th, 21:38).  Sixth and seventh varsity runners were Lincoln Miller (78th, 22:39) and Nolan Jackson (86th, 21:00)

    The varsity girls’ were able to score 173 points to finish 8th overall.  The Jaguars were lead by a trio of junior medalists.  Katara Jondle earned her 6th medal of the season to the lead the team finishing 19th and running 23:23.  Sammy Alphs took medal honors with a 21st place in 23:24 and Alli True earned the last medal with a time of 24:08 that was good enough for 25th.

    Emily Hemmestad (51st, 25:53) and Tessa Berg (59th, 26:59) were the final two Jaguars to cross the finish line for the team score.  Morgan Farnham (61st, 27:09) and Hannah Rees (65th, 27:46) were the displacement scorers.

    The JV girls continued to improve their times and were able to bring home four JV medals on route to winning their second consecutive meet with 21 points, 17 points ahead of 2nd place Ogden.  Marlie Johnson lead the Jaguars finishing 3rd place overall running a career best 26:47.  Viatris Scott (6th, 27:35), Leslie Housken (13th, 29:21) and Jade Wozab (15th, 29:26) were also medalists.  Taegan Long (17th, 29:50) and Christine Housken (19th, 30:17) ran career best, while Chelsea Grossnickle (22nd, 30:20) ran a season PR.

    Finally the JV boys’ were lead by a pair of medalists enroute to their 6th place finish.  Kaylb Crouse (11th, 21:38) and Parker Johnson (14th, 21:46) lead the Southeast Valley boys’ JV team.  Also competing were Blake Peterson (32nd, 23:16), Jared Kastendieck (22:56, 33rd), and Andrew Urelius (45th, 24:37).  Displacement scorers were AJ Smith (46th, 24:38) and Daniel Johnson (24:48, 47th).  Logan Stapp (26:50) and Aryan Azim (28:33) both ran career PRs in the JV race.

    The Jaguars are quickly wrapping up their season.  They will make the lengthy bus trip for the Twin Lakes Conference meet on Saturday, October 14th to Sioux Central.  The varsity will then compete in a class 2A state qualifying meet on Thursday, 19th, site to be determined.
