7/7/17-Girls win thriller

7/7/17   Southeast Valley wins a thriller in Cherokee beating the Braves 11-9 in a 6th inning comeback.  The Jags won the flip and were the home team and the way the night was going we were going to need every chance to stay in the game. The Braves came out swinging in the 1st inning as they scored 3 runs one of which was a homerun.  The Jags’ couldn’t answer back.  Cherokee again scored a run in the 3rd and the Jags were staring at 4-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the 3rd.  Shelby Cummins singled and stole 2nd.  Cummins would score on the double by Kasey Lundberg.  Morgan Castenson ripped a shot over the fence to score Lundberg and herself and the Jags clawed back to a 4-3 ballgame.  Cherokee answered with 2 more runs in the 4th and SV failed to score.  The Braves scored 2 more runs in the 5th and Southeast was behind 8-3 going to the bottom of the 5th.  Cummins would reach on a dropped third catching error.  Emily Jaeschke would single and advance Cummins to second.  Lundberg ripped her second double of the game to score Cummins.  Jags down 8-4 heading to the top of the 6th.  Cherokee again scored one run in the 6th and the pressure was mounting on SV.  The Jags fought back, never giving up and surprised everyone at the park with a 7 run hit parade.  Kenzie Crampton got the inning started with a double, but back to back outs made the feat seem impossible.  Cummins reached on an error by the second baseman and E. Jaeschke singled in Crampton.  Lundberg singled in Cummins and Castenson singled in E. Jaeschke and Lundberg.  Jaiden Ackerson fouled off a bunch but ended up drawing a walk.  Both Castenson and Ackerson would advance a base on a passed ball.  Cassidy Lambert singled in Castenson and Crampton again singled for the secong time this inning bringing in Ackerson and Lambert.  Jags led for the first time all night 11-9.  Cherokee had some team issues going on in the dug-out and Morgan Castenson who relieved Crampton in the 5th struck out the side to win the game.  This was a total team effort.  Lundberg led at the plate going 3-4 with 2 doubles.  Cummins, E. Jaeschke, Castenson, and Crampton each had 2 hits.
