The Jaguars hosted conference foe St. Mary’s of Storm Lake for the last game of the week.  A home game the Jaguars knew they needed to win and could win if they played as well as they have lately.  The Jags wasted no time to leave any doubt scoring four runs in the second inning and then five more in the 4th.  The Jags keep St. Mary’s at bay with terrific defense and pitching from Sophomore Coledon Bethel,  who threw a terrific game going 6 innings, allowing five hits, one earned run and striking out four and walking the same number of batters.  Senior Ryan Gustafson came in the last inning to secure the win for the Jaguars walking one and striking out two batters to secure the 9 to 1 win for the Jaguars.

Defense was solid and the offense showed up big with the heart of the order doing a lot of the damage.  Senior Dakota Jaeschke had a huge night going 2 for 4 scoring one runner and scoring once himself.  Jaxon Myers went 3 for 4 with a fence hitting double and crossing the plate twice.  A trio of Jaguars contributed with one hit apiece.  Jacob Sorenson had a hard hit ball over the third baseman’s head while pitcher Coledon Bethel helped his own cause doing the same.  Nolan Brand was the other hit on the night scoring two runs on the hit much like Coledon’s hit which scored two runners as well.  Jackson Housken and Nolan Johnson didn’t record hits on the night but did their part by walking twice and eventually crossing the plate to give the Jaguars runs.

Three conference games, three huge wins which propels the Jags close to a .500 winning average.  Propelled by good pitching and good defense this is exactly what the Jaguars need from this week.  The Jags have a full schedule next week with conference games on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and a non-conference game on Tuesday.  Home games include Wednesday against GTRA and Friday against South Central Calhoun.  1st pitch honorees include Heather Berglund on Wednesday and Emma Graves on Friday.   Come out watch and support the red hot Jaguars!
