The 2017 Jaguars started their season hosting Iowa Falls- Alden.   The night started with Kristi Castenson throwing out the night’s first pitch.  Kristi was honored for donating towards the new outfield banner which looked awesome!  Kristi and her kids donated in honor of her late husband Dave, who was a huge athletics supporter.   A great field saw the Jaguars strike first in the second and third innings taking a 2-0 lead going into the 6th inning.  After walking two batters the Jag coaches decided to bring in Senior Sam Berglund who was excellent last year in these type of spots.  Sadly history did not repeat itself as Sam didn’t have his best stuff and facing the heart of the order allowed three back to back home runs to sail over the fence allowing Iowa Falls to capitalize on a huge five run 6th inning which was all they needed to secure the win.

In all Nolan Johnson allowed two hits while recording eight strikeouts. Sam allowed three hits and Coledon Bethel who came in after Sam, allowed no hits.  The Jag defense played well allowing no errors on the night against Iowa Falls’ two errors.  At the plate Senior Ryan Gustafson had a double and a single while Sam Berglund, Mason Ackerson and Nolan Johnson rounded out the other hits on the night for the Jags.  A sour end to a nice opening night at Jaguar Field, but it’s great to be back in baseball mode!
