7/12 Woodward Granger W 7-6 (17-13) DISTRICTS 2nd ROUND

Next stop in the Jaguars post season saw the Jaguars taking on the number two seed Woodward Granger in Ogden.  The hawks didn’t waste any time scoring two runs in the first inning but the Jaguars came back to answer in a game which went back and forth all night.  Finally the Jags evened up the score in the 5th with 4 to 4 before a huge 3 run 6th inning gave them a 7 to 4 lead.  Nolan Johnson started on the mound for the Jaguars and did a fantastic job keeping the bats of Woodward Granger off balance but turned the ball over to Senior Andrew Dorage with Woodward’s top of the lineup coming up to hit.  After the three runs in the 6th it looked as if the Jags had a grip on the game but a 2 run blast by the leadoff hitter for the hawks made it a slim one run lead for the Jags.  A quiet 7th inning for the Jags lead to the final three outs of the game.  If the Jags could seal the deal they would be playing in their third district final game in as many years.  As usual the Jags made it interesting as the first batter up hit a shot which allowed him to reach second.  Guy on second and no outs is a tough situation to get out of but the Jags are rarely a team to give up, as the next batter trying to bunt struck out on three pitches, and after another big strike out from pitcher Andrew Dorage the Jags got the last batter of the game to ground out to second wrapping up the game sealing the victory for the Jags!

Another close game for the Jags but they have been there before all season and figure a way to win.  Offensively the Jaguars were started by Nolan Johnson and Myles Davis each earning two hits on the night with Myles making one a double while Nolan scored two huge runs on one of his.  Some big at bats came from seniors Cameron Anderson and Cade King.  Cade laid down a beautiful bunt which feel perfectly to allow him to get to first in the big three run sixth inning.  Cameron’s hit was a huge double again in the sixth inning which plated the go ahead run at the time. Dakota Jaeschke and Andrew Dorage both went one for two while Andrew scored two runners while Dakota got one across.  Rounding out the hitting for the Jags was Sam Berglund who finished with one hit but a big one as it scored a runner.

A close game but it was great to see the Jaguars pulling off the win in that situation.  The Jaguars now play this Saturday at 7:00 in Ogden and against Ogden as they hope to continue their season.  A win would send the Jags onto substate one game away from their goal of making it to the state tournament.
